Airport Security Display Processor (ASDP)

TSC initiated and is executing a project that addresses the use of existing airport surface surveillance radars as a cost effective enhancement to other security measures for detecting intruders on the airport surface and perimeter. As part of this project TSC is developing a prototype Airport Security Display Processor (ASDP).

  • The ASDP focuses on the use of ASDE-3 radars, but the concept applies to any suitable civil or military airport surface surveillance radar such as the ASDE-X
  • Processes ASDE-3 radar data to detect intruders, identifies their intended security targets, and displays alert information on a graphical user interface to airport security personnel
  • TSC is investigating the feasibility of integrating other security sensor data on the display to further enhance situational awareness and reduce false alarms in order to provide airport security personnel with an additional and powerful surveillance tool that is unaffected by poor visibility and does not require the cooperation of the radar target
  • The ASDP system development and concept demonstration is complete
  • TSC is upgrading the detection, tracking, identification algorithms, user interface, and auxiliary sensor interface in preparation of a real time ASDP demonstration, and is generating the ASDP functional and system specification documents, prototype system software, and the manuals needed for transition to production
