TSC’s second largest business area is Advanced Sensor Studies and Hardware. Historically, TSC did much of its business in Research, Advanced Development, and Exploratory Development studies for various agencies in the Department of Defense. These studies made up a significant portion of the defense budget, and small technology companies like TSC often developed advanced sensor concepts and designs. Recently, much of the funding for this work has shifted to the SBIR budget. Companies with fewer than 500 employees are considered small businesses for SBIR purposes.
Often, studies lead to proof of concept hardware. TSC maintains a small prototype and testbed business that allows us to develop and demonstrate concepts investigated under research funding. This work, usually performed in the California Operations, has produced testbeds including radars, electronic warfare receivers, infrared/ultraviolet stimulators, and sonar arrays.
